The generic drug Mometasone was approved for medical use in 1987 and in 2017 it became one of the most widely used medications in the United States. It is a medicine that is widely taken to treat certain skin problems and reduce inflammation within adults and children. This steroid medication can also be prescribed to treat asthma to suppress the symptoms and reduce inflammation. The medicine is available as an ointment, inhalation agent, or nasal spray.

According to some medical reviews, Mometasone can be used to treat adenoid hypertrophy among children, but this is not fully understood. Some patients with atopic dermatitis and psoriasis take the drug Mometasone to treat skin inflammation.

Mometasone is often prescribed to combat skin inflammation among people, who suffer from psoriasis and eczema, asthma, rhinitis. It is a potent corticosteroid and is usually prescribed when other drugs do not work and fail.

Side Effects

Mometasone as a skin cream can lead to skin ulcers, discoloration of the skin, itching and acne.

Serious adverse reactions include fungal infection, a weakened immune system, risk of osteoporosis, bronchospasm, and stunted growth within children.

A very serious side effect is adrenal insufficiency, which requires you to stop using this medication immediately and see your doctor.

Contraindications

If a patient suffers from glaucoma and cataracts, or has an allergic reaction to any component of the medication, then it is contraindicated for to take Mometasone to such patients.

If the patient has been using Mometasone nasal spray for 3 months or more, then it is recommended to have vision checked and be examined by an ophthalmologist regularly. It is also recommended to avoid getting the infection into the body while using Mometasone. If a patient suffers from an allergy to skin cream, then he or she should not take this medication.

The use of Mometasone during pregnancy is not recommended, therefore, you should warn your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant.

The drug has an anti-inflammatory action. Its use can cause several effects: it activates the secretion of anti-inflammatory proteins, reduces the influx of inflammatory cells, affects the activation of inflammatory proteins, and stabilizes cell membranes.
